Jagdpanther (Late steel wheel)

Model by Martin Webster

I've always liked the Jagdpanther and thought it would look great with steel wheels, even though they were never fitted to the Jagdpanther. Had the war continued for a few more months we may well have seen them fitted as rubber supplies were running out.

I had been planning this project for a few years but never got round to it until now. The Jagdpanther kit is from Tamiya and went together like a dream with no fit problems. The steel wheels were taken from Tamiya's steel wheeled Panther (G) as you get two sets ot wheels. The after market parts used were Eduards etched set and the Aber Panther (G) side skirt hangers, as I didn't like the ones in the Eduard set. The tracks are from WWII productions which just need snapping together and are fully workable. I also made a few improvements using white plastic card which can be seen in the photo's.

The model was primed with Halfords red oxide primer then sprayed with Humbrol enamel #86 light olive and #160 red brown. The Dark yellow is Tamiya's XF-60 Acrylic paint. Weathering was done with washes and filters using Winsor and Newton oils and finished with pastels. The tracks were sprayed with Tamiya XF- 52 Dark Earth, they also received oil washes and pastel treatment. I decided to leave the rubber-rimmed wheel in Red Oxide to make it look like the crew haven't had time to paint it yet. The final step was to matt everything down and this was done with Polly scale matt coat which was sprayed on.
