M3 Halftrack, as seen in Northern Chile in late 70īs. Built OOB, only thing added was the tarpauling, made with tissue paper and white glue diluted in water. The Kit itīs the Tamiya M21 Mortar carrier, the tarp was added to hide the interior and get the version used in Chile of the M3 Halftrack with no .50 cal M2 HMG ring. Painted and weathered with SA airbrush, using Humbrol enamels.
The Halftrack is is towing a fuel tanker trailer, thatīs the old Italeri kit, painted in the same way.
This vehicles were received after WWII as part of the Military Assistence Program from the USA in two versions, with and without the weapons ring (last one depicted here) During the US military embargo of weapons, effective from 1975, more were bought from other sources, as well as spare parts (Israel was one of the suppliers).
The Chilean Army is still using this halftracks, but only as recovery vehicles, since some were modified to fulfil this role with a special crane. The rest were deleted from the inventories during the 90īs [View discussion] [Discuss my model]
