PzKpfw IV Ausf. H

Model by Michael Bedard

I have been submitting some older models to Track-Link to hopefully show a modeler’s development. Many of these older models do not have much if any weathering. A lot of the models have scratch-built details or are close to out-of-the-box. I t may be interesting to see how a modeler’s technique, skill and interests have changed over a period of time.

This was to be another PzKpfw IV in a series of vehicles for Military Modeler. Since I wasn’t getting paid for the articles it never was finished or printed. I did however make a set of Panzergrenadiers for Panzer Concepts in 1992 which ended up in the Commander’s Models line and eventually in the General Issue line of figures. I’m not sure if general Issue will reemerge but if they do they still have the masters.

This PzKpfw IV has some details added using Evergreen styrene, aluminum foil for fenders, small RR chains on towing shackles, springs on fenders replaced with coiled brass wire and schurtzen replaced with thin plastic sheet. The zimmerite was made using a process slightly modifie4d from an old issue of Scale Modeler from the early 1970s.

The model was made about 1990. By today’s standards it may be lacking but still holds up fairly well.
