Tiger II, Berlin 1945

Model by Martin Webster

This is the Dragon Tiger II Ardennes kit and was built straight from the box. I decided to model a Tiger II used around the Berlin are in April 1945 fitted with the older nine tooth drive sprocket. Construction was straight forward with no fit problems.

I primed the model in Halfords red primer before painting, when this was dry I airbrushed Humbrol enamels using #94 Sand Yellow, #86Green and #160 German Red Brown. These were only thinned before spraying. Weathering was done with heavy oil washes and filters as i wanted a really dirty vehicle.
Pastels was kept to a minimum.

I had planned to use a spare set of Tamiya rubber tracks and had painted and weathered them, then while fitting to the model one of them split and it was impossible to repair them, as luck would have it I also had a spare set of Tamiya plastic individual tracks and so painted these up before making up and fitting to the tank, then just touch up with paint where i had cut the tracks from the sprue.

As you will have noticed I have put two shell shots on the left side of the turret and this was done using a dental burr in my mini drill. I tried to paint this area the same as the picture I was working from but feel i may have over done it a bit. The final step was to matt everything down and this was done with Humbrol matte coat.

On a lighter note I entered this model into my local model club's winter competition on January 19th where it won best in the Armour class, a first for me.
