Panzeraufklarer 38 D mit 7,5cm AufklarerKanone 2B

Model by Frank Forster

The 38 D Tank family was developed to replace the Panzer III and Panzer IV Series. Powered with an aircooled Tatra Diesel engine (220 PS) a maximum speed of 52 km/h was expected for the vehicle with a weight of 15 tons. The new developed 7,5cm Aufklaerer Kanone 7 B 84 should have reached its production status mid 1945. The design was dropped due to the urgent need for Battle Tanks and Jagdpanzer (Panzernotprogramm).

The kit is from New Connection in 1:35th scale. It features multiple resin parts, Friulmodel tracks and a machined aluminium barrel. It has a complete interior but as usual no decals.

The construction was straight forward, dryfitting is as always highly recommended. I added some gimmicks to the interior and airbrushed the kit with various Gunze and Tamiya acrylic paints. Washes were done with thinned artist oil paints and a little weathering and chipping was done.

Conclusion: yes, it is another "paper panzer" but a lovely little kit. The small tank looks pretty sleek and makes a nice model. The Auflkaerer 38 D 2 cm Haengelafette will follow soon.
