122mm howitzer Model 1938

This is Italaerei/Zveda’s 122mm Model 1938 howitzer built basically stock. The only things done to the kit were thinning the gun shield, replacing handles with brass wire and adding aiming staves. All the rivets were sanded off the gun trail due to the huge sink marks in the trail arms that had to be filled. This also follows the gun that I photographed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. It was finished in April 2002.

To complete the model Tamiya dark green was used as the base color with Winsor/Newton artist oils used for the washes and primary drybrushing. PollyScale acrylics were used for final drybrushing. Watercolors and pigments were used for weathering with a No. 2 pencil used for worn metal areas.

Artillery pieces aren’t done too often. Of all the forces in World War II it seems that the Soviets were the most heavily reliant on artillery. It may be too much to ask but it would be cool to see in styrene the Soviet tracked 152mm howitzer.
