The base kit for this project is the 1:35th scale Skybow kit. I used Tamyia "Pink Panther" tyres to convert this into a desert patrol vehicle. I made one of the radios from melted down plastic. The jeep was airbrushed white, and then weathered with 20% paint 70% thinner and 10% dish soap water mixture. The decales are from Quarter Master Depot.
The figure is a mix of parts from Tamiya and Dragon. I used more Decals from Quarter Master Depot for the corporal ranks; inspired by my present rank in the Canadian forces.
The Bren gun and spot light are from Italeri as well as the United Nations painted blue helmet on the bench set. The UN markings on the helmet as well as the figure and Bren gun and radios are all hand painted. The wire from the head set to the radio is just sewing thread painted black.
The vehicle is based on a photo of a Canadian forces M38A1 jeep on patrol in the desert in 1960. I was inspired to build a Canadian subject based on the United Nations Emergency Force mission as my great grandfather RCE served there, with both my grandfathers RCASC and my great uncle RCASC.
