120mm Mortar

Italari/Zvezda produced this model of the Soviet 120mm motar. The kit is pretty basic but done well. The spokes were replaced with Model Technologies 1/48th scale WW I wire aircraft spokes. Some smaller items were replaced with brass strip left over from photo-etch sets.

Tamiya paints were used as the base color with Winsor/Newton oil paints used for initial drybrushing and washes. PollyScale acrylics were used for final drybrushing. Mig mentions in his recent book that many models have used drybrushing for weathering. I never approached drybrushing as a form of weathering but more of an artistic method to enhance highlighting to bring out detailing much like painting a portrait.

Weathering consists of using Winsor/Newton watercolors, Bragdon rust, Hudson & Allen mud and a No. 2 pencil. The Model was completed April 2002.
