VK 36.01 Fahrgestall

Model by John Steinman

The kit is the VK 36.01 Fahrgestall, Mr.Speer's Wild Ride at the Maybach testing area, Germany 1940-1941. The VK 36.01 is really the starting point for the Tiger we all know and love. Yes the DWs came first, but DWs look more like a Panzer IV then a Tiger. In the VK 36.01 we can see the potential that became the Henschel Tiger, the most widely recognized tank name in the world.

The parts contained in this kit were put together especially by New Connections. It is an amalgam of two resin New Connections kits: The Panzerkampfwagen VI (7.5cm) Ausfuehrung B and the Schweres Abschleppfahrzeug (VKz 36.01) a specially machined front plate from acrylic and some "advanced geekiness" (to borrow a term!)

The full build article, and more photographs are available in issue 39 of Military Minatures in Review.
