Marder II

Model by Bill Goodrich

This is the old Tamiya Marder II. Its not meant to replicate any specific SPG. It’s a good solid kit with no fit problems, but detail wise not up to today’s standards. I have not seen the new DML version, but I am sure it far outshines this kit. The main draw back is the tracks which are junk. I used a set I picked up on Ebay, I believe they were from an Alanger kit. I replaced the front fenders with some scratch built ones using Aber diamond plate. This allowed much more realistic damage. The camo tie down loops were replaced with wire. I thinned the barrel travel lock bracket and made it workable so it would look more realistic. The helmet straps are thin strips of masking tape, painted with Tamiya brown. I scratched the water can bracket. Other wise its all OOTB. Painted with Model Master British Gulf LT Stone. The Camo Pattern is Model M. Field Drab. Mud texture is a combination of Mr Surfacer 500 with MMP powder mixed in. Oil washes and MMP powder. Decals are from the kit.
