This is an Accurate Armour 1:35th scale multi-media kit with a resin hull, white metal road wheels, photo-etched screens and two machined aluminium gun barrels. The model was built by Michael Molter using a lot of Aber photo-etched tool clamps and Tamiya tools from the spares box. The kit's resin tracks were replaced by a Model Kasten King Tiger track. Michael used to work a lot with Kasten tracks, but for me it was the first time I dealt with them. Although they are very nice in terms of scale and detail, they were a pain to work with. When painting and fitting them to the model I had some trouble with the track just going apart when I did not want it to. So in the end I had almost half of the track pinned with injection needles.
I painted the model with custom mixed acrylic paints. I used Gunze Middle Stone and Tamiya Flat White for the (not so dark) yellow. Then I used a little bit of the (self mixed not so dark) yellow and Tamiya Red Brown for the red brown, and at least Gunze RLM 62 with a little (not so dark) yellow. The paints were sprayed as usual with the airbrush and then the hard edges were painted carefully with a brush. I then sprayed the inner areas of the camo with brightened camo paints. Next I applied a washing with diluted black oil paint. The paint chips were made with Tamiya German Grey applied with a tooth pick. Some parts of the tool clamps an worn areas were detailed with Testors Metalizer stainless steel. The markings are spray painted with a randomly picked grey tone and Stencil-It templates. I really like these toned down "low viz" markings. [View discussion] [Discuss my model]
