This is the Tristar Ausf E/F with a few small modifications. In Otto Carius' book "Tigers in the Mud" there are a few photos of 38t's as used by the 20th Panzer Division in Russia. They feature what look like unit-made stowage bins on the sides which I cobbled together using plastic card and rod. This also meant I had to amend the stowage locations, which I managed reasonably accurately by locating some other 20 Pz Div 38t pics in my references. The antenna came from the DML German Antenna set, and the figure is the kit body with a spare Alpine head and headset. I added the pressel switch and cables with plasticard and fine wire.
The kit went together beautifully, except for the very fiddly tracks. With hindsight, I would have just glued them together as they really aren't strong enough to be workable.
The kit was given a base spray of chaos black, followed by Xtracrylic dunkelgrau. The decals were Archer rub down for the crosses, Fingerprint design for the numbers, and handpainted inverted "E"s for 20th Panzer Div. I followed this with a dusty oil wash of a white, burnt umber and ochre mix, localised darker washes and a final pastelling of the wheels and lower chassis. Small patches of dirt, smears and the like were spotted on with a dilute mixture of brown and black acrylics.
The references used were; Squadron Signal "Panzer 38t in Action" volume, MBI's "Praga LT vz 38 Pz Kpfw 38t", Panzer Colours II and of course, Otto Carius' "Tigers in the Mud".
Hope you like it - comments welcome as always.
