Bell 47D

OK, it’s not a tank, Softskin, diorama or figure. But it doesn’t have wings (at least fixed) and it is in 1/35th scale.

This is MRC’s Bell 47D ‘Sioux’ helicopter. I added a lot of little details using the Squadron book on the copter as a guide. Instruments were drilled out and replaced with Waldron aircraft instruments. Lead foil and Waldron buckles replaced the molded on seatbelts. Additional radio equipment and antenna were added to the instrument tower. Wiring in the cockpit and engine was solder. Handles were replaced with brass rod. Vent tube on the fuel tank was stretched sprue. A few added details were added to the tail. Cable is invisible thread. MV lenses were used for the landing light and aviation navigation wing tip lights (or what ever they are called).

Kit decals were used. The model was finished using Tamiya and PollyScale paints along with watercolors and silver colored pencil for weathering.

Someday (yeah, right!) I hope to make a M.A.S.H. diorama featuring this neat little Army vehicle.
