A30 Avenger 17 Pdr SP

Model by Dave Williams

This is the IMA all resin Avenger which I completed as a commissioned piece. The first thing I should say is that researching this thing has been difficult -- there are few sources of information. Thanks to all those who helped out. The Avenger was developed at the end of WW2 and saw service with two Royal Artillery SP Regiments immediately post-war. The only photo I found of an in-service vehicle [thanks to Bob Gregory] was from a Pathe still. It showed an Avenger on a tank transporter, and you can just make out the crossed keys of 2 Inf Div, and the "46" AoS plate. I decided to base my model on this.

The IMA kit is easy to assemble, but watch the wheels and tracks as they are by no means easy to get right. This was my first all resin kit, and I didn't realise how much guesswork and telepathy were involved in the construction process! If you are thinking of building this, I'm happy to help if you contact me by email. The detail is acceptable, but it is missing glacis lights, rear deck extinguishers, smoke dischargers, spare track hangers and other small details which I added from spare PE.

The model was primed in citadel black and then given a coat of xtracrylics British OD, followed by oil and pigment weathering. The 2 Div markings and AoS were painted by hand. The figure is a modified DML offering, with a Hornet head.
