HMC T19 105mm, from Kellys Heros

Model by Gaylan Morris

Like other modellers of US WW2 vehicles, your favourite movies can inspire you to build the vehicles used in the movie. The film "Kelly's Heroes" has always been one of my favourites and inspired me to do a kit bashing project to create the 105mm Halftrack.

I believe that in 1993 there was not a kit for this vehicle, nor after market resin kits for conversion. So, to create this vehicle I used the 1/35 Tamiya M3A2 half track and Italeri 105mm artillery kits. Both kits were built straight from the box, with the 105mm gun mounting frame cut down to fit into the halftrack. Not having reference materials for the vehicle, I took some "modelling liberties" and created a mounting platform and added ammunition racks from a damaged M7 Priest kit.

One of these years (its still on my "to do list") this vehicle along with an M21 and a couple of jeeps will be traveling through a crowded German held crossroad as Mulligan's mortars rain down. At the time, this vehicle was built more for fun and a future diorama than correctness. Any comments on how I might be able to achieve some level on accuracy will be appreciated.
