Mid Production Tiger 1 PzsAbt 506

Model by Martin Webster

This is my Tiger that I built some time ago. It's a hodgepodge of spare parts that my friend John was going to throw out after he had completed a few Tigers. The Zimmerit is from Cavalier and the etch set used is from Eduard's late Tiger set. The only part I made to add to the model was the track cable on the side which was made out of 5 amp fuse wire, it was made by putting three strands of wire in the end of my pin vise and the other ends were wrapped round a nail in a bit of wood then turned till I was happy with the result.

Painting started with a primer coat of Halford's matte black, then a coat of Tamiya XF60 dark Yellow followed by Tamiya XF64 Red Brown. When the paint had fully dried I applied a coat of Johnsons Klear floor polish to give the model a gloss coat, this helps with placing the decals and weathering. The decals used are from Echelon and I have to say I found them fantastic, they conformed to the zimmerit really well though with a little help from Micro Sol and Micro Set, the markings represent a mid-production Tiger from the 2nd Company PzsAbt 506. Weathering consisted of the usual oil washes and filters and pastels. The paint chipping was done with Vallejo Model Color German cam Black Brown though I'm not sure if I over done it, oh well we live and learn LOL.

Although you can not really see him that well the figure is from Cromwell Models and was painted with Humbrol enamels, the only improvement I made to the figure was to add wires to the throat microphone and head phones.

Thats about it, thanks for looking.
