If you have been a watcher of track-link the little vehicle in this diorama has caught your eye previously. I finished the Ford TC quite a while ago and have very slowly sculpting the companion figure for the diorama. I had the base set up for some time and my best friend Chris Barrett has been pestering me to finish it for quite a while. I finally got in completed in October 2006 for the annual Chicago Figure show where I was very lucky to receive a silver medal in the open category.
The figure was sculpted using A + B epoxy putty. The only commercial items used were a modified Hornet head and rifle from ModelKasten. Figure was painted using Vallejo acrylics. Base consists of Celluclay over Styrofoam. Vegetation is a combination of static grass, hemp rope and sugar-leaf plants from a craft store. Ballast is from a model railroad supply and ties and rails were made of styrene shapes and basswood. Everything was painted with Tamiya, PollyScale and Vallejo acrylics.
This whole project was based on the cheap. The model of the Ford TC was bought for a ridiculous price from Squadron for about $4. To help show the scale of the vehicle the figure was planned. I wanted a little more than just some dude standing next to the armored car thus the railroad bank. I’m not well versed in the time period but Scott Nelson was ever so kind to let me borrow his reference on Polish WW I uniforms to help create the figure.
