M4 Sherman, D-Day

Model by James Wechsler

This is a model of an M4 Sherman with the deep wading equipment that used for the invasion of France.

The base kit is the Tamiya M4. The upper hull has had the welding redone since it is recessed and should be raised. Also, the sponsons have been filled using the Formations sponson fillers. Addition details are photoetch for the tool brackets and straps, light guards, tow cable brackets and sights. Formations periscopes and covers are used on the hull hatches and Tiger Models periscope holder is used on the commadner's split hatch. Handles are made from bent solder wire. Plastic strips are used for the sand skirt attachements and the front fender braces to the transmission. The metal barrel is from Lionmarc and the canvas cover for the bow MG, ventilators, and main gun are made from tissue paper and white glue. The suspension is from Tasca since the Tamiya one has the upswept return rollers which is incorrect. The wading gear is from Tankworkshop.

Painting was done with Model Master enamles and light drybrushing and oil washes. The markings come from a Bison decal set.

The anti-tank obstacles are from the old Tamiya set and are rusted with a product called 'Instant Rust'. The figures are a really great Dragon set.

Note to Webmaster: Please include this in the US WW2 and the Construction competitions.
