M4A3 76w Steel City

Model by David Budd

This is my rendition of DML6255 Sherman M4A3 76(w) - Battle of the Bulge. It depicts as scene some time in the spring of 1945, nearing the war's end. I used Model Kasten tracks for the first time on this model, which I thought where excellent and will continue to use them. Also, I used many items from Plus Models, like the oil cans and leaves. I cannot say enough about the Plus Models stuff. There are items from Aber and Verlinden as well.

The ground work is mainly dirt mixed with white glue for the base then colored with various shades of brown. The ground cover is moss I pulled out of my back yard and the flowering bushes are dried flowers from the local art supply store. As for the trees I bought the trunks online somewhere, I don't recall where and the leaves are again dried flowers from the art store.

The name of the tank is Steel City, which is a tribute to my home town of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh played a very important role during WWII considering its mills produced more steel than Germany and Japan combined. My uncle was a metallurgist for J&L Steel during the war and told me about witnessing test firings of the Bazooka at the steel his plant had produced.
