Pz.Kpfw IV Ausf G, DAK

Model by Dave Williams

This is the original DML Pz IV G built as a vehicle of the 15th Panzer Division in Tunisia, 1943.

Some early "G's" had the double-baffle muzzle brake, split cupola hatch, but no add-on hull or nose armour. This configuration fitted the vehicle I wanted to depict. The weathered paint job was achieved mainly through dabbing Maskol over the RAL 7021 grey base coat with a piece of scotch-brite scouring pad. Once the top coat of RAL8020 Braun was applied, the Maskol was then removed to reveal the base coat. This was painstaking, as you forget where some of the Maskol is, but the results are worth it. The sandbags were made with the kids' DAS putty stuff, and I used a variety of spare etched brass and resin oddments to add detail here and there.

The stowage rack was made from a wooden coffee stirrer. The figure os from the Tristar desert panzer crew set, with Archer epaulettes.
