Type 96 25mm AA gun

Model by Michael Bedard

When I ordered this kit from HobbyLink Japan I wasn't exactly sure what it was. I thought it was a field AA gun. Much to my surprise it was actually an on board Naval AA gun. Could you imagine the Yamato in 1/35th scale?

The kit is by Pit Road. Gun and base is cast in white metal. Figures are resin cast. The gun is heavy in detail and the figures aren't the best. Pit Road makes several white metal artillery pieces of Imperial Japan. The actual gun was mounted in single, double and triple mode. It was used throughout the war first being employed in 1936.

The white metal castings are quite good though heavy in detail. I sanded the gunsite to make it thinner which is the only modifications to the gun. Crude figures were enhanced with Hornet heads and hands with DML cloth covered helmets. Gun was painted with Tamiya acrylics while the figures were painted entirely with Vallejo acrylics. I used Alclad primer to prime both the gun and crew.

Now that it is completed I think I'd like to make a box diorama of the Battle of Midway. I think that Trumpeter makes a 1/350 scale Dauntless (if memory serves that the Enterprise had at the Battle).
