Jagdpanzer 38 Hetzer (mid version)

Model by Dave Williams

This is the DML "Command" version Hetzer with the addition of wheels from the new DML 38t series, and vinyl tracks from the new Tamiya Hetzer. Both were in the spares box, so I used them. I also added PE for the tool clamps and holders, and brass tube for the antenna holders.

The figure is from Tristar, with Archer epaulettes/shoulder titles. The paint scheme is based on a vehicle photographed in a dump in Czechoslovakia in 1945. Before anyone says it -- the "blow torch" box on the fender is supposed to be solid; ie no small holes. I scratched my head about this as most I've seen seem to have holes in them. A search of the MBI Hetzer book showed that Skoda produced vehicles with solid boxes as well as perforated. That's cleared that up!

A nice little kit, spolit only by wheels that have no detail on the back. The command version kit includes all the parts to make an mid and a late version, and several different mantlets/saukopf as well as the rear deck plate which has several variants. It stands up well compared to the new Tamiya offering IMHO.

Useful refs were Gary Edmondson's excellent Osprey title on modelling the Hetzer, and the MBI Hetzer volume.
