2S14 85mm SPATG

Model by Jacques Duquette

1/35 scale conversion for a very unique vehicle. This is a DML BTR-70 converted using a SP Designs kit and some SP Designs BTR-70/80 "open sprocket" wheels. Eduard PE was also used exensively (And yes, I screwed up the engine screen bracket frame by putting it on upside down. Sigh.)

The 2S14 was a quick, expedient vehicle designed to shoot and scoot from defensive positions. As a vehicle that was dependant on speed for defense, its armour was only made proof to artillery fragments and 7.62mm ball ammo. However, the main gun was based on the D-4 artillery piece and could use all of its ammo, making it very versitile. The 2S14 proceeded far enough in production to have up to 6 pre-production vehicles made and a 2S designation being adopted. The advent, and potential, of the man portable ATGM ended the program abruptly. There is one known surviving vehile at Kubinka.

Painted in Model Master Dark Green, with pre and post shading. Tinted Future was used as well as wet/dry pigments and pastels.
