TOS-1 Burratino Heavy Rocket Flame Thrower System

Model by Jacques Duquette

1/35 scale conversion of the DML T-72M2 by SP Designs. The kit and conversion needed a lot of additional work to make it presentable and correct and wouldn't you know it, soon after I finished it another much more accurate and better conversion was released from SP Designs. Sigh. ;)

The TOS-1 Burratino "Pinnocio" is a 220mm short range (up to 5km only) rocket launcher that fires conventional and Thermobaric (Fuel-air explosive) warheads. The rockets can be fired individually, in pairs, or salvoe fired in a ripple pattern. Based on rebuilt T-72 chassis, they are very effective in urban combat, dealing decisively with bunkers.

The base is the bottom of a Acrylic Display case with textured paint applied, then static grass and a printed "nameplate". Divider lines and pavement cracks are pencil.

Changes involve the front hull (See photo) and the stabilizers in the back, with the shrouds being made from paper and the "knuckles" on the pads being scratchbuilt from styrene rod. The Launcher also needed a fair amount of work (see photo).

Paint is Model Master Dark Green, US Army Marines Desert Tan, and Black. Tinted Future, wet/dry pigments, and pastels finished it up.
