Blitzsheitzekrieg

Diorama by Brent McCombs

This small vignette features a now hard to find, out of production Warriors figure. I should add a 'thanks' to R&J Hobbies for helping me find him after about a 2 month search.

Originally intended to be placed alongside my FAMO in a 'it's really muddy outhere-bogged down tank' type dio, the package containing this figure was 'intercepted' in the mail by my wife when it arrived and I wasn't home. When I finally got home, she'd opened the package and had looked at the box. So when I walked in, she showed me that it had arrived and asked, "What's he supposed to be doing, scraping poop off his boot?"

Inspiration comes from many sources.

Anyway, the figure is assembled stock, with the addition of a rifle sling from the foil that seals my new contact lenses.

The smock is finished with mixed humbrols and oils, and the rest of the uniform and boots are based in humbrol and shaded with oil. Flesh has been done 'The Bannerman Way'.

The brick wall is from a Verlinden set, but was not detailed on both sides. I therefore scribed the bricks into the previously blank side using a dental tool. I liked my work better than the casting, so mine is the side you see. Bricks were painted in acrylic Polly Scale colours, followed by a wash of light grey to fill in the mortar.

Sidewalk is simply scribed styrene, based in about 5 shades of acyrlic grey smooshed all around.

Cobblestones (just visible in the back left) are made from lentles raided from the kitchen pantry.

Groundwork is from Tamiya putty, static grass and epoxy. Grass was dry brushed with acrylics and heavily finished with pastels.

The barely visible pooch is from the Tamiya Livestock set, and is base coated in acrylics and finished in oils.

The title of the vignette is still something of conundrum for me. I had to come up with something before the Dorval show in October, so after much debate, I settled for "Blitzsheitzekrieg", which looks OK with the German S (which I can't figure out how to replicate here), but doesn't translate well to English. I originally wanted to go with something like "Ambush" or "Danger! - Land Mines" (but in German)but I couldn't find a different German word for Ambush, and the 'mine' is 'minen' in German, so looked a little to simplistic. So if anyone has a better idea, send me an email.

Appologies re: the poor image quality, I'll be updating soon.
