ASU 85

Model by Matthew Quiroz

I bought this conversion several years ago and brought it home and shelved it. When I finally got around to building it I had no idea what lower hull I was supossed to use. After a little nosing around through my stack of Janes Armor and Artillery books I found my answer. So with a sad heart I began to carve up my ZSU 23-4 hull. The kit wasn't all that bad. A little warpage here and there, but that was easily fixed with some very warm water and gentle pressure. The biggest problem I had was the suspension. The #1 roadwheel on the right side looked great, but the left looked as though it was competeing with the idler for a spot as the idler. It was really, really close. I still don't know if it supossed to be this way, but the kit is finished and isn't that what this is all about? Anyway... The model is painted in Model Master Dark Green and sand. The decals came from the scrap box. It was weathered using oils and a light misting of dust along the bottom of the upper hull and suspesion. Other thatn having to cut up my Shilka, I enjoyed tihs one. Now if I can only find a spare hull somewhere......
