T-34/85

This is the Russian WWII variant of DML's T-34/85. Bill Crosby has written that this may have been the kit-of-the-year when it came out. While a Tamiya fan myself, I have to agree with Bill.

Nearly a 'from the box' build, I added only foil fenders and a lens to the headlight. I also reinforced a section of the turret with styrene sheet, and then drilled/gouged out a shell strike.

The only other addition are Anvil tracks - and like so many others on TL, I highly recommend them, though the T-34 tracks didn't go together quite as well as the Panther and Tiger tracks I also have, as there were a few more 'loosey-goosey' ones. Thankfully Anvil tosses in plenty of extras, so the problem was not too great.

The kit was pre-shaded in Citadelle black primer and is base coated in the Testor's Acryl line, 'Russian Green'. Overspray was done with Aeromaster olive drab and khaki drill, and the finish is an oil wash and copious amounts of pastels.

The Tracks were painted seperately, after assembly. They were base coated in a mix of a PollyScale deep brick red with just a hint of a dirty green added to deepen the red. This was my idea of rust. Next, an oil/humbrol black wash was done. Finally a silver/black (85/15) dry brush was executed and pastels were smeared on to finish the deal.

The figure is Tamiya, with an Ultracast head.
