Kingtiger

Model by Robert H. Lu

This is a Nichimo's Kingtiger. With some modifications and added details, it can turn out very nice. The list below is what I have done to the kit.

Lower Hull:
1. Added 3 bolts to the final gear box on each side.
2. Tracks are from a Tamiya's new Kingtiger. Hide the unlinked parts under the fenders.
3. Drilled out the hole of the exhaust pipes and added a small piece of styrene in it.
4. Scratchbuilt the wood block and its bracket.
5. Added bracket of the jack.
6. Scratchbuilt the rear fenders.

Upper Hull:
1. Thinned the edges of the side fenders.
2. Rebuilt all the clamps with brass strips.
3. Detailed the head light and its base.
4. Built the cleaning rods from styrene rod.
5. Detailed the ball MG.
6. Used cotton wire for the tow cables. Suck the wire into a white glue thinned with water and dry it overnight before the use.
7. Model Kasten Zemmerit Coating Sheet was used.
8. Some PE from junk box were added on.

Turret:
1. Detailed the commander cupola.
2. Added rain guards on both front and rear of the roof.
3. Beefed up end of the mantlet.
4. Added details on the barrel and used a late type muzzle brake taken from a Tamiya Tiger I Mid Porduction.
5. Model Kasten Zemmerit.

Painting:
1. Sprayed a coat of Gunze's Mr. Surfacer 500.
2. Sprayed base coat with Tamiya Dark Yellow(XF60)
3. Sprayed the other 2 colours, Red Brown(XF64) and Olive Green(XF58), for the camouflage.
4. Washed with oil paint Burnt Umber thinned with taltine.
5. Painted details.
6. Drybrushed with Dark Yellow(XF60).
7. Added shadow with black pastel chalk.
8. Sprayed Model Master Flat Clear.
