Flammpanzer 38(t)

Model by Antonio Martin Tello

This is the flame thrower version of the Hetzer tank destroyer. The overall quality of the kit is good and the only difficulty was to align properly the wheels and running gear. The model is virtually build out of the box with some additions such as a new exhaust muffler, made with metal sheet, some wingnuts, the notek electric wire. Dragon does not supply the periscopes so I had to add them. When the construction was finished, a generous amount of putty diluted in acetone was spread on the lower chassis and wheels. Whit a hard brush some texture was done to the still fresh putty in order to simulate mud.

The model was airbrused with Tamiya acrylics. The base coat is dark green, lightened in some places with olive green. The other two camo colours were red brown and a mixture 50/50 or dark yellow and buff. In order to create the hard edge pattern camo, masking tape was used. To blend the colours, a overall coat of very diluted (90%) of dark yellow was airbrushed. The edges and panel separations were marked with a very diluted mixture of brown and black. Oil washes of several green, brown and yellow shades were applied. The lower part of the model was airbrushed with flat earth and heavily treated with several pastel brown colours.

The model represents one of the twenty Flammpanzer 38(t) made by BMM and used during the Battle of the Bulge.
