Model Gallery - Sven Young's Models

 Message me  My content

I have been hooked on modelling since the age of six, when I watched my father build the first kit I ever owned, the Tamiya Hawker Sidley Harrier jump jet in 1/48th scale.

Since then, my interest quickly switched from aircraft to armour. I am also an avid reader (and watcher) of military history.

I have been priveldged to have lived and worked in several different countries (currently in China). Sadly, every international move results in the hobby being put on the shelf, sometimes for 4-5 years at a time..!

I enjoy modelling unusual subjects based on readily available kits, converting them as needed. The Royal Danish Army is a particularly good example of this, where many Danish vehicles can be converted from off the shelf kits. Accurate Armour's Danish armour conversions have come in especially handy here. (I do WISH somebody would release the Pirahna III and Eagle, though..!!). I am an Englishman, so of course British armour is very close to my heart as well.

The most discouraging experience I have had in all my years of modelling, was when I participated in a model show in 1993 (my very first modelling competition). It was sad to hear the chairman of one of the larger clubs tear apart almost every model and diorama on display with heavy criticism and degrading comments. It is such a shame that an inidividual in such a fantastic position to promote this hobby instead went out of his way to discourage the modellers who had devoted so much of their time and effort to their creations. I just hope the modellers did not hear his comments..! Oddly enough, he did not seem to have any entries of his own! Hmmm
I am happy to see that this site promotes contructive critisim. Sharing our work in a positive way is after all what this hobby is about.
