The 1st Cavalry have a museum at Ft. Hood, Texas. We stopped there for a short visit on the drive from Austin to Dallas. The Museum is located about a 5 minute drive from the main entrance. Get directions from the gate house, or drive all over until you find it. I saw row on row of modern APCs, trucks etc. all in desert camouflage!
Anyway, there are a couple of dozen vehicles parked outside the museum, including one set of each type of Eastern Block item captured in Iraq, examples of modern US equipment, and then one of each vehicle used by the 1st Cavalry since the beginning of WWII. I took pictures of a M3 halftrack, a M3A1 with bolted hull, a M3A1 welded hull, a M7 Priest, and one shot of a M4A3E8 (then the film, and my wife's patience, ran out).
All of the American armor is painted the same shade of green, the other stuff is all painted a shade of yellow. Some day I'll go back with more film...
I apologize for the extreme shadows in some of the pics. It was that time of day, and I am still not great with the camera. I shot using a 200mm zoom lens, so light levels were messing me up. Download the ZIP file (540 K).
