M551A1 Remains
Sicily DZ Ft. Bragg NC

What you are looking at is the ponint of impact for C32. An M551A1 of C Co 3rd BN 73rd Armor Rgt 82nd Airborne Division. This is what happens when you combine a C130, an M551a1, and faulty parachutes at 1250'. Most of what you see is the LVAD platform, roadwheels/arms and engine oil, and of course the Hemmet wrecker used to clean it up. In the second picture is the remains of the vehicle itself.
Visable are the ammo racks, drivers "T" bar torsion bars, and drivers escape hatch. The orange hose on the left side of the picture is the heater hose for the crew heater. The entire upper hull was smashed into the lower hull before it landed some 50-75 meters away in its own heap. The picture was taken from ground level from the front of the vehicle. Most of the pieces ere picked up. I still have a piece of the vehicle though as it was mine. The commanders control handle from the turret sits proudly on my shelf at the house.
