Wings & Wheels Publications are well known for fabulous walk around and detail photos of a particular subject. They publish books for enthusiast of both ground weapons and aircraft. This particular volume is on the Dodge softskin trucks models WC54, WC 56/57, WC 62/63, and M37. The team of Kořān and Moštěk has done an exceptional job of providing the most comprehensive coverage I have seen on the vehicle.
Using the book’s table of contents:
- WC-54 Ambulance pp. 4-27
After the seven overall photos used on the covers, title page, and table of contents, we have twenty nine walk around photos of the ambulance (as kitted by Peerless Max, Italeri, and Bilek), eight of exterior details, 45 of the interior, nine photos of the stretchers, half a dozen of the engine compartment under restoration, nine photos of the chassis, and four of the engine block outside the ambulance. There is plenty of text accompanying the photos with a history and detailed captions which point out various post war fittings to be wary of if building a model depicting WWII action.
-
WC-56/57 Command Car pp. 28-47
The next subject is the command car and we find twenty eight photos of the WC56, with another six of the exterior, seventeen of the WC57 interior, eight of the canvas roof, four of the canvas doors, and twenty five of a vehicle under restoration. As expected, a short history plus detailed text allows the reader to know exactly what they are looking at and if it is relevant to the kit they are building.
-
WC-62/63 Big Shot pp. 48-61
Sixteen walk around photos start the section on the Big Shot with another nine of the exterior details, five of the cabin interior details, and a whopping 24 of the body. The WC63 Model 1943 receives an additional ten photos of details while fourteen photos of the chassis finish off the essay. I found it nice to separate the Model 1943 as it shows an eye for detail by the authors. The text is easy to read with only a few typographical errors but the information included is of great use.
-
M37 ľ Ton Truck pp. 62-71
While this vehicle is not listed in the table of contents, it does appear within the covers. Sixty one photos cover al details of the truck at the Lešany museum. Again, a nice short history and detailed text in English is included.
This book is indispensable to anyone building the Skybow and Italeri kits. Stunners are sure to result.
