Introduction

Tank Battalions of the U.S. Army is a very comprehensive publication that documents the history, heraldry, and honors of the 417 tank battalions which have existed since World War I.  The Majority of the information in the book has never before appeared in print.

Content

The author covers the history and origin of every tank battalion up to 1983.  Each battalion has a brief history describing its contitution through disbanment.  Each unit's battle streamer, decorations, coat of arms, and distinctive insignia are covered.

There is also an interesting appendix dealing with Heraldry as it relates to the U.S. Army and Armor Branch.

Summary

This book makes a welcome addition to any refernce library.  It serves as a ready reference for determining the location of the battalions during the War.
