I recently received my very first taste of YOSHI figures. I have had a very difficult time tracking YOSHI down but managed to find one through Armoured Brigade Models out of Ottawa - thanks to Sid Arnold.

I acquired the Stug Officer in winter overalls with fur hat. It is well casted, in light yellow resin with separate arms, head and pistol holster. He is standing with his body turned to his right with left arm straight down and right arm at belt height holding a cigarette. The pose is very realistic and I particular like the way his boots are slightly contorted to show weight and motion. He gives the impression he has just heard a noise in the distance. He wears a white (optionally camo-ed), overalls and standard tanker jacket, short boots, gloves, and fur hat.

There is considerable clean-up required as it comes with a slew of resin carriers and flash. It took an entire evening of clean-up on this one. Particular attention to the arm seams and inside legs. The clothing wrinkles and folds are sharp and highly detailed. The boots have marvellous detail right down to the laces. Overall, the body and detail take a big plus and I could easily compare it to some of Warrior's recent releases.

However, I was disappointed with the head and I compare it to some of the heads found on WOLF figures. The eye shapes are not balanced or not proportionate, very little detail is provided around nose, mouth and cheek contour for shadow and highlight purposes...and minute pinholes on the head is...well.. just not worth trying to fix.

I have heard many good reviews from others on YOSHI and perhaps I got a dud. In any event, I give this figure a ***1/2. I will be painting this figure in winter camo with one modification - the head - and putting together an article for submission to the "Articles" section of T-L.
