UltracastBare Heads Set I (#35021) Bare Heads Set II (#35022)
I had heard rumours some time ago that Ultracast was coming out with a series of bare heads. After popping into their website, I immediately contacted them for a set of each.
Each set contains five superbly sculpted and detailed heads casted in a light yellow resin, and moulded to a separate holding block. There are no seams, marks, pit holes, air bubbles or gouges. This is really pleasing as it is so disappointing to get heads with minute seams which would otherwise go un-noticed until you end up putting on your second undercoat.
The first set contains two heads with "cropped hair" denoting a well-groomed clean-cut look while the other three remind me of the unkept "coif" (long on top and short on the side) typical of propaganda reels depicting surrendering German soldiers.
The second set offers four heads with long-ish hair similar to set one and one head who is follicularly challenged. This last figure‘s face is absolutely *beautiful*.
Each figure has a character of its own and detail on face is very good. The eyes are detailed and do not necessarily require irises as the figures all carry a squint - by now, a true Ultracast trademark. And if one opted to prop a helmet on, a little sanding would do the trick.
Super job ! Pictures of both sets can be found at their website. I rate these heads highly and give both sets four stars.
