Ausfwerks is a new company from New York State that has opened shop and introduced some new products for modelers. Being run by modelers, the tools and accessories share an eye for detail and ingenuity which is refreshing.
Grunddeckung - Ground Cover
This simple item is their first diorama accessory of the 500 series. It consists of a ZiplocŪ bag in a cardboard header with Birch seed. See photo 1. The material is dry and has some nice autumn colors to them. Enough is given to cover a base six inches square.
The seeds mimic a deciduous lobed simple leaf such as the Amur Maple. However, the edges are smooth when most maple leaf edges are toothed. Truthfully, not many modelers are Arborists or tree experts to identify the seeds or which leaves the seeds represent. My wife, the gardener, told me what these were. To use, spray the ground with diluted cellulose (white) glue. Sprinkle on the ground cover and let dry. Shake off any loose seeds onto a piece of cardboard since it may be used again. Repeat the process if necessary.

This product is an excellent and natural representation of Fall leaves. I will probably stack them against a tree trunk to add visual interest to a scene. The product is recommended as a good value as well. My thanks to Ausfwerks for the review sample.
