Dust is a sci-fi (fictional) world, only parts of the background and the models are based on historical documentation.
The Figures
The subjects are German Raketentruppen, a new attack troop of elite soldiers. Equipped with a rocket back-pack, they are enabled to perform short flights (basically jumps) on the battlefield to quickly redeploy them onto the areas where they would be needed most.
In a box with Paolo Parente’s artwork, we find two sprues of medium grey styrene plastic: one sprue with the figures, one sprue with equipment and weapons. See photos 4 and 5. The artwork is exceptional and the box is quite similar to Dragon’s with the rear becoming an instruction guide. See photos 1 and 2.
From head to toe (boots) the figures are pretty well detailed and on a level of the first generation Dragon figures....to be honest, if I look at the sprues I am not even sure if they are not molded by Dragon. No defective parts are in the set, some sinkmarks were found on locations where they do not need to be corrected such as on the inside of the figures.
The details are nice, the faces are good. The set features two soldiers with rocket back-pack, these are the man with a Fallschirmjägergewehr and a woman giving orders (probably an officer). The third figure has a big, mean looking rocket launcher, while the last man has two steel ammo boxes. The Raketentruppen all wear Fallschirmjäger Helmet and Erbsenmuster camo shirts. See photo 6.
The paint reference suggests a fictional winter pea dot camouflage, inspired by Eskimos that have more than 100 words for white. See photo 3.
Conclusion
Yes, it is an esoteric subject. But these German Raketentruppen are perfect company to the many German what-if subjects like the E-Series and Paper Panzers.
These well molded figures are high quality. Highly recommended!
