This is exactly the same kit as the Early version but the late style mantlet and raised engine deck fan is included. Also with this kit are a set of superb figures, based on, it seems, that famous photograph of a Panther crew scanning the sky for enemy aircraft, (the photograph appears in Squadron/Signal's Panther in Action page 32). One of the figures, the loader, is wearing his loader's gloves, which is something I haven't seen before in a plastic kit -- a nice touch. Also parts to build the Command version are included, in the form of the engine deck aerial mounting pot and the base for the second turret mounted aerial. Unfortunately Tamiya forgot the small conical plug which was supposed to be fitted over the turret MG port when the MG was removed from the command vehicles.

Everything I mentioned about the Early version kit also applies to this kit. However, based on new information found in AFV News (Sept.-Dec.1995, pp.18 - "Panther Ausf. G Rear Deck Variations", by Ernest Albright), it would seem that Tamiya have got the engine deck wrong. The late production Ausf. G had fewer bolts around the engine compartment access plate. There should be four along the front, six along each side and four along the back. Tamiya has six, eleven and six respectively; which is correct for early and mid. production vehicles -- Tamiya has obviously saved a bit of money by not retooling the mould for a proper late Ausf. G. The large lifting hooks are correct for this kit only, but again the smaller hooks are missing.
