The new (back when I first wrote this) Verlinden detail set for Tamiya's new Kubelwagen (No.35213) is a little gem that will enhance the already excellent Tamiya kit. The kit consists of 27 resin pieces, one sheet of photo-etch, instructions and a six inch length of rod. The resin is khaki in colour and well moulded. The normal excellent Verlinden quality is present with well cast pieces, no air bubbles, and "user friendly" plugs. The resin pieces consist of four fuel cans and handles (two extra handles in case of errors), four food carriers (two with cargo straps and two without), two covered headlights with slits, tail light, covered windshield, a rucksack, gas mask, canteen, breadbag, and two different shovels. Also included are two covered tires of which one has a flag panel covering it. Also an accordion is included, which I have to admit I didn't know what that piece was until I emailed VLS to ask! Major photoetch pieces are new mirrors, clamps, hinges, jerrycan holders, rifle racks, door handles, and folding kit for the canvas cover. Also included with the photo etch for use with the flag moulded on the tire is a stencil to paint your own flag. This stencil contains a circle and a swastika and is a welcomed addition.
The photo etch is a little on the thick side, but every piece is usable. The rear of the tires contain holes so that the Tamiya spare tire mounting location does not have to be modified. Few Tamiya parts that have to be modified (shaved off). Modification to the Tamiya kit includes removing the plastic rifle rack from part B18, removing the mirror portion off of the holders (parts B5, B6), the foot step off the rear of the front fender, and part of the folding rack for the canvas roof, and the door latches. All other pieces are either a one for one replacement, or a completely new replacement.
