One of the first items Verlinden produced, this set contains six plaster parts to make up a "Ruined Street". As it is relatvely cheap, it's a good starting point for dioramas.
The parts are cast quite well, but there are several small airbubbles and some bigger ones. This is a common problem with plaster building kits. A few wipes with a wet brush and some Polyfilla fixed this easily. The parts make up a house, or small shop if you want to, with a garage or something similar adjacent to that, as well as a small garden wall with water pump on the other side. No window frames are given, and the doors of the house and the big garage door are cast in plaster which isn't too good a move, because of the airbubbles. Of course these could made to represent bullet holes - remember, the street is ruined - but I decided to cut these away and add my own from balsa wood. This isn't at all difficult, and a good excercise for scratchbuilding.
The window frames have to made by the modeller as well, and this a bit more difficult, as these parts have to align precisely to ensure a good fit. It's a pity that no interior parts have been provided, it would have been good if the buildings extended a bit further, but this is easily made if you want to. Just mix up some more Polyfila, pour it into a mould (I used some strips of balsa for this), let it dry thoroughly and glue the parts in place.
Then the real construction begins. Here I had some difficulty, as the parts didn't fit very well together. I had to slice off some bits of plaster with and old knife and check after every cut.
All in all, this set isn't bad. It's cheap, it provides a starting point for a bigger building, and it's excellent as a backdrop for a diorama. The fact that no window frames have been provided costs Verlinden half a star, as in my opinion, this might deter some of the less-experienced modellers.
