Only a few of these steel-rimmed road wheeled Panthers were produced in WW2 during the fall of 1944, so being a subject of a major injection moulded plastic kit is something of a surprise. The kit is essentially identical to the Early version kit, but includes a new sprue which contains the steel-rimmed road wheels, periscopes for the commander's cupola (which were not provided in Tamiya's other Ausf. G kits), and a very nice rendition of the IR night fighting equipment, of which three are included because of the duplicate sprues. These extra IR devices will be useful on other late war AFVs such as the Kingtiger and Sd. Kfz. 251. Additionally the old rubber-rimmed road wheels are still included - this is good news for anyone looking for a substitute set of road wheels for the Italeri Panther Ausf. A.
Everything I mentioned about the Early version kit also apply to this kit as well. This kit costs more on average than the other two, but you do get an an extra set of road wheels and the extra IR devices. Hopefully Tamiya will bring out a kit of German WW2 vehicle accessories and include the IR devices, aerial mounts, etc., (hint, hint...)
