I just picked this piece up about a week ago and I have done a little construction. The first thing that struck me was how Tamiya-like the box art is. Unfortunately there are no finished model photographs on the box anywhere, so I had to take it on faith, and good reviews of past AFV Club products that this was going to be worth the money.
Upon first inspection of the box contents I found seven complete sprues, an aluminum barrel, poly caps for the wheels, the rubber track, a loose lower hull and upper turret, all neatly sealed in clear plastic. I don't recall what was wrapped with what because I opened so them so fast. As I looked over everything closer I began to realize that this model is very much worth the money.
I'll first describe the air intake, because it made a very sharp impression on me. The vent itself is a big piece, but having said that, the individual screens have the slits moulded into them. What I'm saying, if it's not clear, is that if you held the part in the light, you'll see the other side, I thought it was cool.
The wheels are another particular interest. Each individual wheel has four parts, the inner wheel, a poly cap, the outer wheel, and a rim that attaches to the outer wheel to achieve the correct shape. They are very crisp and finely moulded. The tracks are of a soft rubber which is just as good as in any recent Tamiya kit.
The rest of the parts are for the, vast majority, very finely moulded. Many of them are very small, some tiny, like the handles that are found on the storage on the hull.
Unfortunately, there are a few sink holes which I've noticed in areas that will require some fine detail to be removed to fill. But we all have to deal with such problems and this in no way degrades the kit as a whole.
As I stated be for I have built a little and there are a few fit issues that I have run into. I'm not going to go into the particulars right now, though I will say that they haven't so far been very hard at all to fix. These problems though are small, and I sure most folks of modest skills can hack it (like ME!)
I will give this kit 3-1/2 stars for the in box review, mainly because of the instructions, they do leave a bit to the be desired. I do recommend the kit from what I've seen so far.
