I found this set in the railway accessories display of a London hobby shop. It comes in a small blister pack and includes four plates of plastic paving, each measuring 13 x 7.5cm, for the quite reasonable price of £2.10 .
Each plate has the same intricate pattern of irregular, “crazy” paving. This is very well moulded and three dimensional in its fine detail : individual stones have delicate dents and bumps.
Clean up is minimal, you just have to trim up the edges of the plate a bit. I coated it with Tamiya grey primer in a spray can. When dry, I gave it a thin wash of Tamiya flat black acrylic, then picked up some individual stones in various shades of grey and protected everything with a coat of matt varnish.
There you go : you now have the perfect enhancement for a wooden base : ideal to display small scale cars or motorbikes. For military vehicles, I think the pattern is more suited to 1/48 and 1/35, so it will be perfect for a compact vehicle such as an 1/35 Jeep or Kubelwagen.
It always pays to visit the railway modelling section of a model shop!
Highly recommended.
