I must first say that I am relatively new to scale modelling. I am, however, a Military History Grognard and am expanding into this hobby in light of its vast improvement in the last 10 years from what I can tell by my research.
Overview:
I have had some experience in painting WH40K figures and will say that they are probably the deepest and best line of miniatures on the market. That said I was amazed to find only a few short weeks ago while researching the 1:35 scale scene, the vast line of resin miniatures by Verlinden. This set includes 2 Heer or SS troops in smocks and loose fitting pants. One figure, crouched over, wears a metal helmet, smock pulled up over his field grey uniform, and shoes. He is loading an MP 38/40, with its clip removed in his left hand, his neck craning skyward. The second figure is leaned slightly backwards, supposedly to be leaning against an object for support, firing his Mauser at eye level. He wears combat boots, his uniform is not visible under his smock, and he has a stick grenade stuck in his waistband. He also has a cover on his helmet. The first figure has a 6 mag bandioleer molded into him, connected via y strap on his back. The second has several separate 7.92 pouches to be attached to his front. Both come with the assorted canteen/breadpouch/mess canister/spade accessories for their backsides. An extra MP38/40 is included (with spare mag).
Assembly/Painting:
Being new to resin, I cut myself very badly trying to remove the large and hard injection points on these pieces. Nonetheless, I learned from my novice lesson and got all the pieces separated and cleaned up, scoring them for a good glue base. The only piece that seemed a bad fit was the SMG armed soldier's torso to legs matchup, leaving a large gap either in front or in back. Excessive trimming did not seem an option for detail would be sacrified. As far as painting, I am also new to this field, so I can only say that the paint held well to the resin. The mold seemed to have many deep and impressive lines and folds, giving a nice feel to the figures. My applied wash held well in the grooves and highlighting will surely accentuate these models. The faces, though, IMO, didn't have deep enough character to take a good wash and show good detail. The eyes beaded over with the flesh coat and the wash did not define them, as well as lips/nose. This may be a novice opinion, maybe they were scuplted for magnified detail painting and not 4 or 5 step practical painting, that I don't know. Fine models, though, when painted.
Conclusion:
I would recommend these models highly. They seem to work well engaged in fighting off an ambush of an AFV they are accompanying or in a street engagement. They are none too confident and appear on the defensive. I look forward to painting more resin models and posting more reviews on my learning adventure.
